The Mausoleum
2023
The Mausoleum is a multimedia installation embodying the last four years of Joseph Arzoumanov's artistic research. It blends pieces of goldsmithing displayed in alcoves, frescoes depicting fantastical journeys, a tribute to his grandfather, and the expression of an ineffable feeling, a mixture of joy and terror, which he attempts to convey with a touch of mischief. The music composed by the artist's grandfather, Valery Arzoumanov, "Sermon on the Mount," with Gidon Kremer on violin, plays continuously within the Mausoleum, expressing a vertiginous unease that finds solace in the idea of the divine.
The installation is surmounted by a dome gilded with gold leaf, it is adorned with a frieze of goldwork, four-meter-long gold embroidery as well as embroidered, painted and sculpted frescoes on the walls.
Unique work
The Mausoleum consists of a wooden structure supporting a dome, composed of 3D printed sculpted tiles gilded with gold leaf, which rests on painted wooden panels including alcoves containing pieces of goldwork and on which a frieze of gold haberdashery is developed.
